Puff is an online mattress company that offers three different models of all-foam mattress. Their mattresses are 100% manufactured in the USA using high-quality and environmentally friendly practices. Like many memory foam mattresses, they are designed to rest on any surface and feature multiple layers of specially formulated memory foam to deliver the ideal combination of comfort and support.

The Puffy mattress first hit the market in 2017 and was an immediate success. Since then, not only has the Puffy mattress been ranked the best mattress of 2020, but in early 2019 both the Puffy Original and Puffy Lux mattresses received an upgrade in materials.

Prior to 2019, Puffy received a number of customer complaints that the mattress felt too firm. As a result, they chose to upgrade the materials and the design for both the Puffy Original and the Puffy Lux mattress with a layer of Climate Comfort Foam in the middle of each mattress. This foam improved the firmness level as well as the temperature regulation for both models.

Here’s a quick review of what the Puffy mattress is made of:

  • A stain-resistant polyester blend cover that zips off for easy cleaning.
  • A base of Cooling Cloud and Firm Core Support foam to support spine alignment.
  • A layer of Climate Comfort temperature-stabilizing foam to prevent temperature swings.
  • A layer of Cooling Cloud Gel foam infused with cooling beads to regulate temperature.

Before we get into the details of the Puffy Original and the Puffy Lux mattresses, let’s take a quick look at some of the pros and cons for Puffy mattresses in general:

  • Free delivery service to contiguous U.S. and lifetime warranty for all models
  • Excellent motion isolation and temperature regulation

Puffy Original vs. Puffy Lux Side-by-Side

puffy vs luxHaving explored the features and benefits of the two Puffy mattresses individually, now it’s time to see how they stack up against each other. Both mattresses offer exceptional comfort and support, but there are some key differences to keep in mind when deciding between the two.

Let’s take a look at some of the features for the Puffy Original and talk about performance in categories like comfort, support, motion isolation, and temperature regulation.

  1. Comfort

Both the Puffy Original and Puffy Lux mattresses feature an all-foam design and a medium level of firmness. The Puffy Original is ranked a 6 to 8 on a 10-point scale which may be a little too firm for smaller individuals and a little too soft for larger individuals. The Puffy Lux is slightly softer, thanks to the addition of a 2-inch layer of adaptive, contouring foam for extra pressure point relief. It ranks a 5 to 7 on a 10-point scale, making it medium plush which appeals to a wider range of sleeping styles, though it has a little more give to relieve pressure on the shoulders and hips for side sleepers.

  1. Support

With an all-foam construction starting with a 6-inch layer of Firm Core Support foam, both the Puffy Original and the Puffy Lux offer excellent support and contouring comfort. Both models react quickly and don’t sink as much as some memory foam mattresses. The three-layer construction is supportive in all sleeping styles, though the softer Puffy Lux may be more supportive than the Original for side sleepers. Both mattresses contour nicely to deliver optimal spine alignment. In terms of edge support, the Original Puffy could be better but the Puffy Lux is a little stronger in this area.

  1. Motion Isolation

One of the biggest benefits of memory foam is that it reduces motion isolation, an important feature for people who sleep with a partner. Both the Puffy Original and the Puffy Lux offer excellent motion isolation because they react quickly to changes. Motion isolation is a little stronger in the Puffy Lux, but both would be a good choice for couples and light sleepers.

  1. Temperature Regulation

Memory foam is more affected by changes in temperature than the typical innerspring mattress. In developing the Puffy mattress, however, the company focused on heat-dissipating technology to keep the bed temperature neutral for a comfortable sleeping experience in all climates. Both the Puffy Original and the Puffy Lux feature the same top layer of Cooling Cloud Foam which uses conduction and convection to pull heat away from the body and to generate air flow. The result is that the bed stays temperature neutral, keeping you cool and dry all night long. They both also have a breathable cover.

  1. Additional Features

The Puffy Original and the Puffy Lux start with the same 3-layer construction, but the Puffy Lux has an added layer of contouring foam for pressure relief. Both mattresses also come with a zip-off, stain-resistant cover that is thick but breathable. The Puffy Lux cover is made from slightly higher quality materials, but both offer excellent protection against stains and are easy to clean.

Though this review only covers the original Puffy and the Puffy Lux, there is a third model to consider – the Puffy Royal. This mattress features a 14-inch top layer infused with cooling beads to eliminate heat retention and a 2-inch second layer of premium foam to relieve pressure. It suits all sleeping styles and comes with the same 101-night sleep trial with free shipping and a lifetime warranty.

If you’re looking for a premium mattress and you’re willing to pay a higher price for it, the Puffy Royal mattress is definitely one to consider. If you want a high-quality mattress that offers excellent comfort and support at a more affordable price, consider the Puffy Original or the Puffy Lux.

They reach out to local charities to have the mattress picked up from your home before issuing a refund. You do not pay any return shipping charges.

Though Puffy’s sleep trial may be shorter than some mattresses on the market, their warranty lasts a lifetime. Puffy has one of the best warranties in the industry – you’ll be covered for as long as you own the mattress. If anything goes wrong, you’ll receive a new mattress free of charge.

Here are a few quick things to remember about Puffy’s warranty:

  • The warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the mattress.
  • It offers lifetime protection against certain product defects during the ownership period.
  • In the event of a defect, Puffy will repair or replace the mattress with a comparable model.
  • The warranty is void if the mattress is not used on a suitable foundation or frame.
  • The warranty is void if the mattress has been misused, burned, or damaged by improper use.
