Saatva Mattresses Review

saatva

If you’re looking for a luxurious, eco-friendly mattress around $1000, then you’re going to want to give Saatva a look. Recognized by Forbes and other media outlets for its successful and unique approach to doing business, this company has a strong commitment to reducing its carbon footprint while providing exceptional products at affordable prices. Organic and recycled materials go into every mattress, benefitting the environment while providing consumers with comfortable hypoallergenic mattresses that are built to last.

Saatva Mattresses Special Features

Saatva is among just a handful of companies that promise to produce mattresses using eco-friendly materials only. While these mattresses are not 100 percent organic, their covers are made with organic cotton and their foams are made with renewable materials including corn and soy. That’s just the tip of the iceberg: There are quite a few features that make Saatva stand out.

  • Saatva mattresses contain botanical antimicrobial fabric treatment from Guardin®. This treatment helps keep the mattress clean, and it prolongs the life of the cover.
  • Innerspring models are made with recycled steel springs instead of newly manufactured steel. Steel components are triple-tempered and oven baked for superior strength and less risk of breakage.
  • Saatva hybrid mattresses offer “coil on coil” construction for reliable support and less motion transfer than is normally found in an innerspring mattress.

Because Saatva sells its mattresses online only, the company is able to cut overhead costs. Its mattresses offer premium comfort while being priced far more affordably than luxury mattresses sold in stores. Easy financing puts these mattresses within reach of consumers who prefer to make payments. A generous trial period helps prevent buyers’ remorse. It’s worth noting that the Saatva brand offers innerspring and hybrid mattresses only. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly memory foam mattress, consider Loom & Leaf. If you like the idea of an organic latex mattress, then you might want to take a look at ZenHaven. Both of these companies are affiliated with Saatva, sharing its commitment to eco-friendly manufacturing and business practices.

Saatva Mattresses Materials

Saatva mattresses are made in America using premium materials that are similar to those found in mattresses costing thousands of dollars. The company states that its mattresses are built to last for an average of ten to fifteen years, with consistent performance throughout the lifespan.

All Saatva mattress models include tempered steel bases with supportive lower coils for excellent durability, a pleasant bounce, and a reduced risk of sagging. Layered on top of the base are an insulator pad that prevents sinking, plus a series of individually wrapped foam-encased coils that respond to the body’s contours.

A layer of high-quality memory foam provides lumbar support, and Saatva’s Dual Perimeter Edge Support System, also of foam, helps prevent sagging around the edges. All foams used in Saatva mattresses are CERTIPUR-US® certified, ensuring freedom from harmful chemicals, irritants, and heavy metals.

Thick Euro pillow tops provide additional cushioning, and organic cotton fabric covers offer a smooth, cool feel. The covers are blended with hypoallergenic fibers that contain natural fire retardant sourced from thistles. Saatva mattresses are made with a unique quilting pattern for added comfort and durability.

Because so much material goes into these mattresses, they’re quite heavy – and this can make for some difficulty with the recommended rotation schedule. This is something to keep in mind as you make your decision.

Saatva Mattresses: Models Available

Saatva offers three different comfort levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm (a medium-firm feel), and Firm. Foundations and frames are also available, as are Saatva adjustable bases, which offer zero-gravity, elevation, and massage functions as well as under-bed illumination.

Saatva Plush Soft Mattress

If you enjoy the feeling of a deep, soft mattress that also happens to be supportive in all the right places, then you’ll probably love sleeping on the Saatva Plush Soft. This model is ideal for side sleepers, particularly those who have a problem with their shoulders and arms developing pressure points or even falling asleep.

Despite its soft feel, this mattress offers excellent edge support and sleepers feel very little motion transfer. The memory foam layer offers a good level of pressure relief, but there is a downside for some people. Because the Saatva Plush Soft mattress contains softer, deeper memory foam than the Luxury Firm and Firm models, it sleeps a little hotter than either of those. While it’s definitely cooler than a standard memory foam mattress, people who tend to sleep hot might be prone to overheating. If you want a plush feel and need a cooler mattress option, consider looking into Eight, Muse, or Tanda. These companies have invested in special cooling technologies, and are ideal for people who require a mattress that’s designed to prevent overheating.

The Saatva Plush Soft mattress comes in the following sizes:

  • Twin
  • Twin XL
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King
  • California King

Saatva Luxury Firm Mattress

Saatva describes its Luxury Firm mattress as its flagship model. Offering a medium-firm feel that satisfies a variety of sleepers, it’s the most popular of the three available models. The lumbar region is well-supported, while the shoulders and hips are allowed to relax a bit deeper into the mattress. Back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and most side sleepers tend to enjoy the way this mattress feels. Lighter people – particularly side sleepers – are likely to prefer the Saatva Plush Soft mattress.  Meanwhile, heavier people may find that the Saatva firm mattress feels more comfortable, depending on sleeping position. This mattress offers great edge support, very little motion transfer, and less heat buildup than the Plush Soft model.

The Saatva Luxury Firm mattress comes in the following sizes:

  • Twin
  • Twin XL
  • Full
  • Queen
  • King
  • California King

Saatva Firm Mattress

The Saatva Firm mattress is ideal for back and stomach sleepers, as well as for others who dislike the feel of softer mattresses. Firmer memory foams go into the manufacturing of these mattresses, preventing you from sinking in while also ensuring that your body is cradled comfortably. While some firm mattresses feel like you’re sleeping on cement, this one offers a pleasant “floating” feel. Motion transfer is virtually non-existent, and edge support is exceptional. This is also the coolest of all three Saatva mattress models.

Saatva Mattresses: Compatible Frames and Foundations

After selecting mattress size, customers are prompted to choose between the 14.5-inch and the 11.5-inch mattress. Both offer the same comfort level; the difference lies in the foundation layer. Saatva’s 11.5-inch mattresses are designed to offer compatibility with adjustable bases, while its 14.5-inch mattresses can only be used on flat foundations. The company states that using one of its 14.5-inch mattress on an adjustable base is grounds for voiding the warranty.

If you use a standard frame, you can opt for one of Saatva’s foundations, which come in different heights as well as in split versions for easier navigation through narrow spaces. You can also use a compatible box spring beneath your mattress, so long as it is in excellent condition with no sagging. Additionally, all Saatva mattresses are compatible with platform beds. The company recommends using the 11.5-inch mattress height if you have a platform bed with a low headboard, simply for aesthetic reasons.

Saatva Mattresses: Delivery, Setup, Off Gassing, and More

All Saatva mattresses come with free white glove delivery and setup, including setup of the frame if needed. When your delivery date arrives, there’s nothing for you to do but be on hand to let the delivery team in to work their magic. As for off gassing, the company assures its customers that the foams used in its mattresses are stable prior to even being shipped to its factories, so they are odorless by the time the arrive in customers’ homes. If you like the idea of an odor-free mattress, then you’ll probably appreciate this one. At the same time, some sensitive reviewers note that there is a small amount of new product odor, but that it’s minimal and dissipates within about three to five days of installation. Like many other top mattress companies, Saatva will happily remove your old mattress and box spring for free when they deliver your new one.

Saatva Mattresses Trial Period

Saatva offers a 120-day trial on their mattresses. It’s not the longest trial we’ve found, but it’s a touch longer than average. There is currently a $99 transportation cost for mattress returns.

Saatva Mattresses Warranty

The Saatva mattress warranty is 15 years, non-prorated. During the first two years, mattresses deemed to be defective will be replaced at no cost. During subsequent years, defective mattresses will be repaired and re-covered. There is also a fairness replacement option, in which a replacement mattress is provided at a fraction of the cost depending on the age of the mattress. There are many important details in the fine print, so be sure to read the entire warranty to ensure that you’re well-informed before selecting this mattress as your nightly companion!

All Saatva mattresses are made to order. If you choose Saatva, know that it may take some time for your new mattress to arrive. The company provides each customer with a time quote and sets up a delivery date ahead of time.
